Dust Mites - I bet you didn't even know you had them!

Did you ever realise that at any one time, you may have between 100,000 and 1,000,000 dust mites sharing your bed with you? Dust mites are microscopic relatives of spiders and ticks and are the most common household allergen cause.

Allergic reactions associated with asthma, hay fever and sinusitis are being increasingly diagnosed among young children and adults, but often the symptoms are misdiagnosed. “Do you have pets?” or “does your child eat nuts?” are questions which may be asked, but take a closer look and you may find the solution is even closer to home!

House dust mites may live inside your pillows, mattresses, quilts, soft toys, lounge, curtains and so on. Regular washing of your bed linen in extremely hot water will help, but will not remove the mites. With a lifespan of around sixty days, the mites live in warm humid places and live on human skin flakes and dust. The mites continue to breed and produce allergenic particles of faecal pellets which are easily airborne and will affect some or most people.

Common symptoms include:
  • Eczema
  • Dermatitis
  • Other skin disorders
  • Itchy, watery eyes
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Wheezing or sneezing

While you may never have a dust mite free home, you can eliminate the cause of your symptoms from your bedroom. By placing a protective barrier around the mites, you keep them locked in and protect your body while you sleep.

Bambury Mite-Guard Allergy Protective Bedding System is an advanced and proven range of bedding protection. Mite-Guard is a soft, air permeable, micron dust filter designed specifically as a barrier against dust mite allergies, without sacrificing comfort. This means you or your family will be protected from the dust mites, still sleep comfortably through the night, and wake up in the morning feeling even better!

General practitioners are beginning to realise the importance of protection from dust mites and are increasingly recommending patients invest in bedding protection. There are a range of products available, just search through the net for options to suit you. Bambury is very inexpensive compared to other products on the market that provide the same protection, so make sure you look at all your options.

Caba’s Drapery does stock the Bambury range of dust mite protection online.
